This product came about after Dan dropped a divided plastic storage box full of tiny fly hooks on the kitchen floor. The box popped open, hooks down to #28 went everywhere, and the cleanup took hours! Then, a windy Wyoming fishing trip conspired against Ken while trying to pluck #24 chironomid emergers out of a normal fly box--the wind took away more tiny flies than the fish did that day.

We decided on strong Neodymium-Iron-Boron magnets as the solution to this problem, and us plus many field testers from Fly Anglers Online report excellent results using these boxes on the river and in the wind, and also for the fly tying desk. The hooks tend to arrange themselves in a circle around the center of each magnet, making selecting your fly or hook easy. You can open the lids and shake the box, and not a single fly or hook (no matter how small) will fall out!

The boxes measure 4-1/2 inches by 3 inches by 1-1/4 inches deep. They are double-sided--one side has 9 compartments 3/8 inch deep, the other side has 6 compartments 3/8 inch deep. The magnets are held in place by mutual attraction to themselves through the center. The boxes are made of translucent plastic (NOT the brittle polystyrene kind) imprinted with our logo, with a molded-in hinge to keep prices down (the strong magnets are the most expensive part of the unit). If your box hinge wears out, we can replace it with another box for just a couple bucks, and you can just move the magnets over to the new one. We can also supply just the twenty 3/8 inch by 1/16th inch magnet disks for you separately, and we have other sizes available. Please inquire if you need magnets separately.

Shipping and packaging is $2.00 for one midge box, $4.00 for up to 6, and $8.00 for most larger orders. We won't gouge you, we just have to charge extra for the padded mailer envelope or cardboard box. And if the calculated shipping cost seems really high, just email us at info@littlesouthfork.com and we'll either refund the extra or send you more goodies, your choice. Canadian orders are welcomed, but shipping will be more. Other international orders are for wholesale only, please Inquire.
